Orlando Pirates advanced to their third consecutive Nedbank Cup final after edging Marumo Gallants 1-0 in a tense semi-final clash at a packed Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Dlamini Strikes as Pirates Take Control
- The Buccaneers dominated early proceedings and were rewarded in the 22nd minute.
- A quick move saw Patrick Maswanganyi cut the ball back from the right, and Kabelo Dlamini calmly slotted it home.
- It was Dlamini’s first goal of the tournament — and ultimately, the match-winner.
Gallants nearly equalized before the break, but goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi produced a vital save to deny Edgar Manaka.
Tactical Adjustments & Missed Chances
- Pirates coach Jose Riveiro made four changes to his starting XI, and his side controlled much of the match.
- To change the pace, Gallants substituted Gabadinho Mhango and Christopher Sithole after halftime, but they were unable to penetrate the Pirates' defense.
In the closing stages:
- Mabasa’s effort was cleared off the line.
- Deon Hotto and Mofokeng were both denied by veteran keeper Washington Arubi.
Despite Gallants’ late pressure, the Pirates held firm to secure the narrow victory.
Unbeaten Run & A Possible Dream Final
- Jose Riveiro’s side remains unbeaten in the Nedbank Cup since 2022/23.
- Pirates now await the winner of Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Kaizer Chiefs, a potential blockbuster showdown in the 2025 final.
