Broos Satisfied as South Africa Defeats Uganda, Targets Perfect Finish in AFCON Qualifiers
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says the win over Uganda in Kampala was to prove a point as they now to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group.
Despite not being at their best in the opening 45 minutes, Broos was pleased with the second-half performance, where his team broke down Uganda’s defense. "We played better in the second half, we found the deep man easier, it was a problem for Uganda, we scored at the right moment," Broos said after the match.
South Africa's qualification journey has been dramatic, including late goals against Uganda and South Sudan, and a draw with Congo Brazzaville. With Uganda leading the group prior to the match, Broos emphasized that securing top spot was important, and now South Africa must close the qualifiers with a win against South Sudan in Cape Town on Tuesday.
"We came here to be first in the group, which we are, and we will try to win the game against South Sudan to stay first," Broos stated.
South Africa will now travel to Cape Town for their final home fixture of the qualifiers, aiming to secure their place in the 2025 AFCON.
