British Open snooker starts tomorrow. Who is the favorite, tournament format, prize money & dates
The World Snooker Tour 2024/2025 season is gaining momentum. On the 24rd of September, the sixth edition of the most prestigious tournament, the British Open, will start in Cheltenham, UK. The Dailysports team has prepared a guide to the tournament for you.
What is the format of the British Open?
The tournament will be held in two stages. The first is the qualifying phase, and it partially took place from 31 July to 3 August in Leicester. The second part of the qualifying matches will take place in the main tournament on 23 September in Cheltenham.
The very next day, 24 September, the matches of the main tournament will begin. All matches up to the quarter-final stage are played in a series of up to seven frames, quarter-finals - up to nine frames, semifinals - up to 11 frames, and the final - up to 19 frames.
Who are the British Open favourites?
Among the favourites are the last two World Snooker Tour tournaments winners, Judd Trump, who triumphed in Riyadh, and Neil Robertson, who won the English Open.
What is the prize fund for the British Open?
The total prize fund for the British Open is almost £50,000 less than the previous World Snooker Tour tournament – English Open (£502,000), but the winner, as there, will receive 1/5th of the total prize fund - £100,000.
