BREAKING! Todd Boehly sells Chelsea
A major chapter at Stamford Bridge has officially come to an end.
Details: Chelsea have officially announced a major ownership transition: affiliates of Clearlake Capital will acquire Todd Boehly's ownership interest in the club, with the American businessman also leaving his position as Chelsea chairman.
The restructuring goes even further. Clearlake will also acquire Mark Walter's ownership interest and, as a result, take full control of Chelsea. Hansjörg Wyss, meanwhile, will remain a stakeholder and partner in the ownership group.
Boehly addressed the Chelsea supporters in a farewell statement, saying it had been an honour to serve as chairman. He thanked the Premier League, coaches, players, club leadership, staff and fans, while also highlighting the collective investment made together with Clearlake and the wider ownership group.
The American businessman added that he believes Chelsea are well positioned for continued success under Clearlake's leadership. Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano thanked Boehly for his contribution and confirmed that the group intends to continue investing in infrastructure, sporting performance and player development.
Chelsea have also stressed that the ownership transition will not result in changes to the club's day-to-day operations, leadership or strategy. It is worth noting that Boehly and Clearlake jointly led the acquisition of Chelsea in 2022, with Boehly subsequently serving as chairman for approximately four years.
