BREAKING. SSC Napoli announced the signing of the Italian national team defender
After winning Serie A in the 2023/24 season, SSC Napoli had a rather disappointing performance last year. The team finished only tenth in the championship, was eliminated from the Coppa Italia in the first match against Frosinone in the Round of 16, and lost to Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana final. Internationally, Napoli was knocked out in the Round of 16 by Barcelona.
These results prompted the club to be active in the transfer market. The team's first major signing was Torino defender and Italian national team player Alessandro Buongiorno. This was announced on Napoli's official page on the social network X.
The club's president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, also confirmed the signing, welcoming the new player to the club.
According to Football Italia, the transfer fee amounted to €35 million plus €5 million in bonuses. Buongiorno's contract with the Naples club runs until 2029, with a salary of €2.5 million per season.
For Napoli, the signing of Buongiorno is the third incoming transfer this summer, following the acquisitions of Mattia Popovic from Monza and Leonardo Spinazzola from Roma. However, the latter two joined as free agents.
Alessandro Buongiorno is a product of Torino's youth system. Apart from a year and a half on loan at Carpi and Trapani, he has consistently played for his home club. He has made 109 appearances for Torino, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Since 2022, he has been a part of the Italian national team and was called up for Euro 2024, although he spent all the matches on the bench.
