Breaking News: NPFL: Inter Lagos Fined N5.25m, Docked Three Points and Goals Over Match Officials’ Assault Against Katsina
Inter Lagos have been hit with multiple sanctions by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following incidents involving match officials during their Matchday 7 1-1 draw against Katsina United on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
According to an official statement from the Euromatch NPFL, the Lagos-based club breached the NPFL27 Framework and Rules after failing to provide adequate security at their home fixture.
The league body stated that the security lapses allowed unauthorized individuals to enter restricted areas, where match officials were attacked while making their way from the dressing room to their vehicle.
As a result, Inter Lagos have been fined N2 million for inadequate security and another N1 million for holding the match officials for more than an hour.
The club was also handed an additional N2 million fine for the assault, while N250,000 was awarded as compensation to the affected assistant referee for his damaged property and medical treatment.
The most significant punishment sees Inter Lagos lose three points and three goals from their accrued totals for the assault and injury suffered by the first assistant referee.
