Barcelona's Spanish midfielder Lamine Yamal has been named the best young player of 2024 by France Football, earning the prestigious Kopa Trophy.
This marks the fourth consecutive year a player from a Spanish club has claimed this award. Last year’s Kopa Trophy went to Jude Bellingham from Real Madrid, while the two previous winners were Barcelona stars Gavi and Pedri.
For 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, this was his first nomination for France Football’s top young player award, and he managed to claim the trophy on his debut.
The past season was remarkable for the young Barça talent. In September 2023, the forward made his debut with Spain’s national team, and less than a year later, he helped La Roja secure the European Championship title as a key player.
In addition, Yamal set records over the past year, becoming the youngest scorer in Spanish Super Cup history and the second-youngest in UEFA Champions League history. Just two days before receiving this award, Yamal also became the youngest goalscorer in El Clásico history, as Barça triumphed over Real Madrid 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
