Breaking: CONMEBOL announces expansion of the FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup saw a historic expansion to 48 participating teams, but the next edition could feature even more.

Details: CONMEBOL President Alejandro Domínguez has announced that the next FIFA World Cup will feature 64 teams instead of 48. Moreover, the tournament will begin in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay to mark the centenary of the FIFA World Cup before moving to the main host nations—Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

In addition, FIFA intends to launch an investigation into the conduct of Argentina's players following the World Cup final.
