London’s Chelsea are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Xabi Alonso.
Details: According to talkSPORT, Chelsea’s management has virtually agreed terms with the 44-year-old specialist. The official announcement is expected to come immediately after the FA Cup final, which will take place this Saturday.
At the moment, the club is fully focused on the upcoming clash at Wembley, but negotiations will move into the final stage right after the final whistle.
Alonso managed to edge out other candidates on the “Blues” shortlist, including Marco Silva (Fulham), Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth) and Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace).
Since leaving Real Madrid in January this year, Xabi has become one of the most sought-after names on the managerial market. Liverpool, where Arne Slot’s position is under increasing scrutiny, and Newcastle both showed interest, but it’s Chelsea who have beaten their rivals to the highly decorated Spaniard.
Reminder: Chelsea lost a key player ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
