Brazil have parted ways with head coach Dorival Júnior following their crushing 4–1 defeat to Argentina at the Estadio Monumental, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on Thursday.
The decision came swiftly after a disastrous performance against their archrivals, marking another low point for the Seleção. Dorival had taken over in January 2024 after Fernando Diniz was also dismissed following a loss to Argentina at the Maracanã.
NOTA OFICIAL 🇧🇷
The Brazilian team looked disjointed and vulnerable against an inspired Argentine side, and the result triggered widespread mockery on social media, especially after Raphinha’s bold pre-match statement that Brazil would “thrash” the Albiceleste.
In an official statement, the CBF thanked Dorival for his work and confirmed that the search for a new coach is already underway. The next appointment will be tasked with restoring Brazil’s competitive edge and international reputation just over a year before the 2026 World Cup.
