Brazil faces the potential disqualification of all its football clubs and national teams from international tournaments for an indefinite period.

FIFA and CONMEBOL have issued an official statement warning the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) that its teams may be disqualified if third parties interfere in the upcoming presidential elections. Such interference is prohibited by FIFA regulations.

Delegations from FIFA and CONMEBOL will arrive in Brazil on January 8 to monitor the election process.

Earlier, Ednaldo Rodrigues was removed from the position of CBF president. A Brazilian court ruled that Rodrigues violated rules during the previous elections, and his appeal was unsuccessful.

The Brazilian national team had a challenging start to the qualification cycle for the 2026 World Cup, losing three consecutive matches and earning only 7 points in six games.
