Boxing tragedy: 26-year-old Mexican fighter dies after being knocked out in the ring

Mexican boxer Arturo “Lobito” Torres has died at the age of 26, several days after suffering a devastating defeat in the ring. The fighter lost consciousness after the bout was stopped and was unable to recover from his injuries, The Sun reports.

Torres entered the ring on September 19 in Mexicali, where he faced Gilberto Garcia. The bout ended in a seventh-round technical knockout victory for his opponent. After the fight was stopped, “Lobito” remained lying in the ring before losing consciousness.

The boxer was rushed to hospital. Doctors discovered a blood clot in his brain and performed emergency surgery. Following the procedure, Torres was placed in an induced coma.

At first, doctors reported that the fighter was in stable condition, while his brother Angel said the surgery had been successful. However, Arturo’s condition later deteriorated. His death was announced on Friday.

Torres began his professional career in November 2018 and fought 24 bouts. He finished with a record of 15 wins, six losses and three draws.
