Boxer Jamel Herring released from custody after domestic violence charges dropped
Former WBO junior lightweight world champion Jamel Herring has been released from jail after domestic violence charges against him were dropped, TMZ reports.
Herring’s attorney, Clyde Bennett, issued a statement confirming that the investigation concluded all allegations made against the ex-boxer by his wife were false. Authorities determined there was insufficient evidence to support claims of domestic abuse.
In January, Herring’s wife accused him of assaulting her during an argument. She alleged that he returned home intoxicated in the middle of the night and violently attacked her—punching, choking, and pulling her hair. Following these accusations, Herring was arrested while authorities investigated the case.
Now free, Herring reportedly wants to put the situation behind him as soon as possible. However, he has not yet publicly commented on the incident.
Herring retired from professional boxing in 2022.
