Botafogo has finalized the signing of 19-year-old Colombian midfielder Jordan Barrera, a standout performer in this year’s South American U-20 Championship. The Rio-based club acquired 80% of his rights from Junior Barranquilla for $4 million (roughly R$22 million), with the remaining 20% retained by his former club. The move was first reported by journalist José Hugo Illera.

Barrera impressed scouts from across Europe earlier this year, contributing a goal and four assists in nine matches for Colombia's U-20 squad. His performances attracted interest from Porto, Newcastle, Sevilla, and Borussia Dortmund, with initial transfer estimates ranging from €5 to €6 million. Despite that, Botafogo moved quickly to secure the deal.

A central midfielder by trade, Barrera began his professional career with Junior in 2023 before being loaned out to Barranquilla FC, a second-division side. Over two seasons, he tallied 41 appearances and three goals. Back with Junior in 2025, he played 14 matches, scoring once and assisting another. A right-footed playmaker, he typically operated on the right side of the pitch and wore the number 7 shirt.

Botafogo, still active in the market, is also pursuing reinforcements in central defense and on the right wing, having made bids for Novorizontino’s Dantas and West Ham’s Luis Guilherme.
