Botafogo have locked down one of their most influential players. Venezuelan winger Jefferson Savarino has extended his contract with the Brazilian giants until June 2028, according to ge. The new deal replaces the previous one, which was set to expire in December 2026, and includes a salary raise and a release clause of $20 million for foreign clubs, equivalent to over R$113 million.

Savarino’s renewal was a key demand from both the coaching staff and fans, especially after the recent departures of Thiago Almada and Luiz Henrique to European clubs. His consistent performances throughout 2024 played a pivotal role in Botafogo’s historic double—winning both the Brazilian league and the Copa Libertadores.

Since joining the club at the beginning of last season, Savarino has become an integral part of the attack, contributing 15 goals and 13 assists across 62 appearances. His versatility and chemistry with teammates made him indispensable during the club's golden run.

By securing Savarino’s future, Botafogo aim to maintain the competitive edge that took them to the summit of South American football. The team is now preparing for their 2025 Brasileirão opener, facing Palmeiras away at Allianz Parque this coming Sunday.
