Borussia Dortmund sporting director confirms Niko Kovač appointment
Borussia Dortmund parted ways with head coach Nuri Şahin last week, and within days, the club has found his replacement.
Details: Initially, insider Florian Plettenberg reported that Niko Kovač would take over as the new head coach. Following Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, the club’s sporting director confirmed the appointment.
He stated that Kovač will officially start his role on Sunday, having signed a contract until 2026.
Niko Kovač began his managerial career in 2013 with Croatia’s U21 national team. He later coached the senior Croatian national team, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, Monaco, and Wolfsburg, leaving the latter in 2024.
Reminder: Borussia Dortmund currently sits in 11th place in the Bundesliga. Excluding their ongoing Champions League match against Shakhtar, Die Schwarzgelben have won just one of their last ten games.
