Boca Weighs Pompei or Rudman as Interim Option If Russo Can't Join in Time

Miguel Ángel Russo is set to return as Boca Juniors manager, according to TyC Sports, but his appointment hinges on finalizing an exit from San Lorenzo. If the deal isn't completed in time, Boca’s first training session after a week off will be led by either Roberto Pompei or Silvio Rudman, two coaches currently working with the club’s youth squads.
San Lorenzo president Julio Lopardo and general secretary Martín Cigna met with Russo’s agent to review the coach’s tenure, but have not acknowledged direct contact from Boca. While the Xeneize hope to finalize Russo’s arrival soon, time constraints make his presence on Tuesday unlikely.
With former interim Mariano Herrón stepping down amid tension with the squad, Boca is preparing for a temporary solution. Pompei, now in charge of the reserve team, and Rudman, coaching the under-20s, are the leading options to fill the gap until Russo is officially unveiled.
Meanwhile, Boca’s football council is working on signings for the Club World Cup. Midfielders Aníbal Moreno and Fausto Vera are high on the list, and Russo is expected to influence transfer decisions once he officially takes over.
