Boca Faces Estudiantes in Crucial Test Ahead of Superclásico
Boca Juniors will host Estudiantes de La Plata on Saturday in a highly anticipated match for Matchday 14 of the 2025 Apertura Tournament. The game is set for 8:30 p.m. at La Bombonera and will be officiated by Nazareno Arasa, according to Superdepor.
Boca arrives in top form, leading Group A with 29 points after winning eight of their last nine games. Fernando Gago's squad bounced back impressively following an early Libertadores exit, showing resilience in the domestic competition. Their latest victory, a 3-1 away win over Belgrano, further solidified their momentum heading into next week’s Superclásico against River Plate.
Team selection remains uncertain in a few positions: the right-back spot is contested between Lucas Blondel and Luis Advíncula, while upfront, either Miguel Merentiel or Exequiel Zeballos will partner Edinson Cavani, with Milton Giménez sidelined by injury.
Estudiantes, meanwhile, sits fifth in Group A and is under pressure after five consecutive matches without a win. Eduardo Domínguez’s team salvaged a late draw against Gimnasia in the La Plata derby but risks dropping out of playoff contention.
All eyes will also be on Cristian Medina, who returns to La Bombonera for the first time since being transferred from Boca to Estudiantes by Foster Gillett’s investment group.
The match will serve as a litmus test for both sides with the playoff race heating up and the Superclásico looming on the horizon.
