Blunder! NBA club Charlotte Hornets take back gifted PlayStation from a child
The Charlotte Hornets have found themselves at the center of an embarrassing controversy due to a mishandled pre-Christmas campaign, reports Bild.
During halftime at a game between the Hornets and the Philadelphia 76ers, the team hosted a customary fan activity. A boy and his uncle were invited onto the court, where the boy’s Christmas wishes were read aloud.
The child expressed his dream of owning a PlayStation 5 — and to his delight, the Hornets presented him with a brand-new console! The boy was ecstatic, but the joy was short-lived. After the cameras turned off, the team reportedly took back the console and handed him a team jersey instead.
"You guys want to see a cheap sports organization? In this video my best friend&his nephew get called onto court for a special segment where they gift the kid a PS5 publicly… w/cameras off they TOOK IT AWAY and gave him a jersey.," read a post circulating online.
What a misstep!
The club quickly issued a response, ultimately delivering the PlayStation 5 to the boy. In addition, as an apology, the team offered the family VIP seats for the next Hornets game.
