Zverev arrived in Argentina from Italy, only to discover that his bags were missing. Later, it was revealed that they had been sent in the opposite direction, landing 8,700 miles away on the tropical islands of the Maldives.
"Could anyone explain to me how on earth it is possible for me to fly from Rome to Buenos Aires but my bags instead of coming with me being sent to the Maldives?" Zverev wrote on Instagram, mixing frustration with humor.
After learning about the mix-up, tournament organizers granted Zverev an extra 24 hours to retrieve his belongings before his first match.
The world No. 6 will begin his Argentina Open campaign in the second round, facing the winner of Dušan Lajović vs. Roberto Carballés Baena.
Recently, Zverev lost to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final, marking his third career defeat in a Grand Slam final after falling short at Roland Garros 2024 and the US Open 2020.
