The most prestigious tournament in women's team tennis is nearing its climax. The Billie Jean King Cup Finals kick off on November 14th, and the Dailysports team has compiled all the vital information you need to know about this exciting competition.
Billie Jean King Cup Finals 2024: format
The Finals consist of four stages: the first round, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
Eight teams, including host Spain, compete in the first round. Four teams, namely Canada and Italy (2023 finalists), Czechia (wild-card holder), and Australia, are seeded and directly qualify for the quarterfinals.
Following the first round, the competition transitions to a classic knockout format: winners of the quarterfinals advance to the semifinals, and the two strongest teams clash in the final.
Spain, Canada, Italy, and Czechia secured their spots in the Finals automatically. The remaining eight teams – Australia, Poland, Great Britain, USA, Japan, Germany, Slovakia, and Romania – had to navigate the qualification tournament.
The qualification matches took place on April 12-13, 2024, featuring eight participants from the 2023 finals (excluding Czechia and Spain) and eight winners from the 2023 playoffs.
The tournament operates on a format where teams play two singles matches (between different players) and one doubles match. Each match between teams is played to a best-of-two format and takes place within a single day.
