“Better for them and for me.” Flick comments on refereeing in the match against Atlético
In the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Atlético Madrid defeated Barcelona 2:0, but the match featured several controversial refereeing decisions, which Hansi Flick addressed.
Details: After the game, the German coach was asked about the officials’ performance, to which Flick replied that it would be better if he did not comment on it.
Quote: “It’s better if I don’t talk about the referee. Better for me and for them,” Flick said.
However, he added that Marc Pubill should have been shown a red card for a handball inside his own penalty area. Flick does not understand why it was neither a sending-off nor a penalty.
As previously reported, after Atlético’s goalkeeper played the ball from a goal kick, his teammate clearly handled the ball inside the penalty area, effectively stopping its movement. Nevertheless, the referee ignored the incident.
Reminder: In another UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Liverpool played away against PSG, where a controversial penalty incident occurred in the second half.
