Beşiktaş seriously considering signing Ter Stegen as early as this winter
The future of Marc-André ter Stegen at Barcelona is once again in doubt. The 33-year-old goalkeeper is nearing the end of his recovery from back surgery, but his position at Barcelona has become increasingly complicated. The Catalan club is continuing to put its faith in Joan Garcia, while also having the experienced Wojciech Szczęsny as a reliable backup. As a result, Barcelona is now looking for a new club for the German shot-stopper.
Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, Beşiktaş are ready to take Ter Stegen on loan until the end of the season. The Turkish club is offering the German goalkeeper an undisputed number one status and is willing to pay half of his salary. In Istanbul, they are confident he will be a key reinforcement, especially given their current issues between the posts.
The situation is further complicated by the stance of the German national team: Ter Stegen will only secure a spot at the World Cup if he gets regular game time in the second half of the season. This means a winter move may be necessary for him to guarantee the playing time he needs ahead of the tournament.
A switch to Beşiktaş would provide Ter Stegen with the regular minutes so crucial ahead of the world championship. However, the Turkish side are not competing in European competitions, which could influence his decision. For now, Ter Stegen is focused on completing his recovery, with a final decision expected in January.
This season, the goalkeeper has not played a single match due to injury.
Reminder: Former Blaugrana defender Samuel Umtiti opened up about the injury that ended his Barcelona career.
