Karim Benzema joined the Saudi Pro League in the summer of 2023 and has now been with Al-Ittihad for a year and a half. Here’s how the French striker is performing for the club.
Details: After missing a few matches in October, Benzema has returned in spectacular form. The French forward has now scored in four consecutive matches, tallying six goals and providing two assists during this run.
Two of those goals came in the quarter-finals of the Saudi King’s Cup, where Al-Ittihad defeated Al-Hilal on Tuesday, January 7, securing their place in the tournament's semi-finals.
Over his time in Saudi Arabia, Benzema has scored 26 goals and provided 11 assists. In the current Professional League campaign, he has netted ten goals, placing him second in the league’s top scorers' chart.
Al-Ittihad currently sits atop the Saudi Pro League table with 36 points after 13 rounds. The team is also set to compete in the semi-finals of the King’s Cup.
Reminder: Recent reports suggest that Benzema may consider retiring after the 2024/25 season. While Al-Ittihad is already planning for next summer, there is uncertainty about whether Benzema will be part of those plans.
