Benni McCarthy Honoured by President William Ruto for Outstanding Impact on Kenyan Football
Kenya head coach Benni McCarthy has been honoured by President William Ruto in recognition of his contributions to the growth and success of Kenyan football.
The South African football icon was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC), a prestigious national honour that acknowledges his leadership and positive impact on the Harambee Stars since taking charge of the national team.
McCarthy’s influence was most evident at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), where he guided Kenya to a historic quarter-final finish in the country’s debut appearance at the tournament.
The Kenyan Federation president, Hussein Mohammed, took to social media to celebrate their head coach, applauding his guidance and commitment throughout CHAN 2024. In a statement shared on X, the national team wrote:
“Congratulations to Harambee Stars Benni McCarthy on being awarded the Head of State’s Commendation (HSC) for his outstanding leadership and guidance of the national team during CHAN 2024,” the Harambee Stars wrote on social media.
“This recognition reflects the hard work, discipline and belief instilled in the Harambee Stars, and is a proud moment for Kenyan football.
“I also wish to sincerely thank the Government of Kenya, led by H.E. President William Samoei Ruto for recognising the important role football plays in our society and for the continued support towards the growth and development of the game in our country.
“Together, we will keep building a stronger future for Kenyan football.”
