Romaine Gandonou has won the Goal of the Tournament award at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which was held in Poland. The striker for Benin’s Amazons has been recognised for her breathtaking free-kick against Poland.
The goal was scored in the 87th minute, on the third matchday of the group stage. At that stage of the match, Benin were trailing 4–0. Despite the circumstances, Gandonou struck a free-kick that stood out at the tournament and was named the best goal of the competition.
The accolade gives women's football in Benin a wonderful international showcas. It was Benin’s first-ever appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The Amazons had been knocked out of the competition after one draw and two defeats.
