Benin knock out Ivory Coast and qualify for the U20 Women's World Cup
The Elephants will not be making the trip to Poland
The Ivory Coast U20 women's team lost on Sunday in the second leg of the final round of African qualifiers for the World Cup.
Benin’s U20 women’s team dominated the Ivorians on 10 May at the Kegue stadium in Lomé, Togo. Whilst the first leg had ended in a 1-1 draw, the Beninese side asserted their dominance in the return fixture.
The U20 Amazons beat the Elephants 4-1 in this second leg. Romaine Gandonou scored a brace, whilst Hosane Soukou and Germaine Honfo each netted a goal.
Benin has thus secured a historic place at the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
