Benfica have increased the value of their young star amid interest from top clubs

Despite not making his debut for the Eagles' main team, Benfica young winger Jose Melro has been a target of top clubs for quite some time, something Lisbon are trying to counteract.
The winger recently extended his contract with Benfica until 2027, with Marca reporting that the new agreement includes an increased clause of as much as 60 million euros from the pay-off.
Eagles head coach Roger Schmidt believes in him and sees him as a future main squad player, and Rui Costa was the driving force behind the contract extension.
At the same time, Melroe himself has attracted interest from clubs such as Barcelona and Lille. The 20-year-old's old contract expired in the summer of 2025, and it was thought that this summer would be the Lisbon club's last opportunity to capitalise on the winger.
But, Benfica value their young talents and Barcelona will have to look for other options to strengthen their youth squad.
