Bayern Munich is looking forward to an interesting new season, primarily due to changes in the coaching staff. However, before appointing Vincent Kompany as head coach, Bayern tried to bring back Louis van Gaal.

The 72-year-old Dutchman revealed this himself in an interview with RTL. Van Gaal had previously worked in Munich from July 2009 to April 2011. During this period, the team won the Bundesliga, the German Cup, and the German Super Cup under his leadership.

"Bayern offered me the position of head coach, I was surprised," said the coach, who has been without a job for over two years.

Van Gaal's last job was with the Netherlands national team, which he left immediately after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to Argentina (2-2, 3-4 on penalties).
