Bayern legend booed at Allianz Arena
Legendary Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was met with jeers from the stands of his home ground, the Allianz Arena, during an NFL game between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants, reports Bild.
Neuer attended the American football match held on November 10 in Munich, which took place at Bayern’s iconic stadium. To show his support, the German football star donned a Carolina Panthers jersey with the number 51 — a tribute to club legend Sam Mills.
However, this gesture didn’t spare him from a loud chorus of boos when his image appeared on the stadium’s big screens.
This isn't the first time Bayern stars have faced such reactions at the Allianz Arena. Two years ago, during another NFL game, players like Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, and Alphonso Davies were similarly booed. The explanation is simple: NFL games in Munich attract fans from all over Germany and Europe, many of whom aren't necessarily supporters of Bayern players.
As a reminder, in October 2023, Manuel Neuer married German handball player Anika Bissel, and in March 2024, the couple welcomed their first son.
