Bayer CEO failed to promise Wirtz won't be sold to Bayern
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro gave a cautious response when asked whether the club’s star player, Florian Wirtz, would be sold to Bayern Munich.
Quote: "Can I promise that Florian Wirtz won’t be sold to Bayern? I can’t promise anything—football is unpredictable. But of course, we don’t want to sell our best players to direct competitors," Carro told Fabrizio Romano.
Reminder: It was recently reported that Wirtz is in talks with Bayer over a contract extension. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are considered the main contenders for the midfielder.
We previously reported that Bayer Leverkusen has set a €150 million price tag for their key player, though Bayern is expected to offer €100 million plus bonuses. Bayern believes that Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz could become the best midfielders in the world in the future.
On a related note, Wirtz is currently sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained while playing for the German national team.
