Bassey, Osimhen Make Afcon 2025 Pre-Tournament Best XI

The Super Eagles have received early praise ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after Calvin Bassey and Victor Osimhen were named in the Pre-Tournament Afcon 2025 Best XI by CBS Sports Golazo.

The selection, compiled by the platform, highlights players expected to shine in Morocco, with Bassey anchoring defence and Osimhen leading the attack.

Former Sierra Leone international Michael Lahoud praised Bassey’s versatility, saying “Calvin Bassey is an interesting option at left-back…”. Osimhen’s inclusion reflects his reputation as one of Africa’s deadliest forwards and a major boost to Nigeria’s Afcon hopes.

Both players missed Nigeria’s friendly defeat to Egypt Tuesday.
