Based on the experience of Euro 2024. UEFA makes rule changes for next season
During Euro 2024 in Germany, UEFA has decided to introduce a significant rule change. According to the new regulation, only team captains are allowed to communicate with the referee on the field. This change aims to ensure fair play, increase respect for referees, and reduce instances of misconduct among players and coaches.
The initiative has been well-received, and UEFA has decided to extend this rule to all other tournaments under its jurisdiction, including the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. This rule will apply to both men's and women's teams.
In a statement, UEFA said:
"The success of this new approach, understood by the participants of the game and welcomed by public opinion as an undeniable progress in enhancing the image of football, reinforces our confidence that this is the way forward.
Fair play and respect are values that football, as the world's most popular game, must convey to our societies.
Starting from the new season in UEFA club tournaments, which begin next week, this rule will be applied to all matches."
The first qualifying round matches of the Champions League will start on Tuesday, July 9, followed by the initial matches of the Europa League and Conference League qualifiers two days later.
