After Vélez secured top spot in Copa Libertadores Group H with a goalless draw against Peñarol, head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto turned his attention to the upcoming transfer window. As reported by Vélez 670, the Argentine manager emphasized the need for reinforcements to arrive by June 10, when preseason kicks off at the Villa Olímpica.

Barros Schelotto praised his team’s campaign, highlighting defensive solidity and control over Peñarol's playmaker, Leo Fernández. But he made clear his ambitions: "We want a team that reflects Vélez’s history and competes for the title while aiming to advance in the Libertadores knockout stage."

The coach revealed he’s been granted freedom to select targets and stressed urgency. Meanwhile, the club is bracing for the departure of three key players. Central midfielder Christian Ordóñez has been sold to Parma, while Valentín Gómez and forward Álvaro Montoro are likely to leave—Gómez is reportedly negotiating with Botafogo.

Montoro, notably, was left out of the squad for not being “fully focused,” according to Barros Schelotto, who nonetheless kept the door open for his return if he stays.

The second half of 2025 is pivotal for Vélez, balancing domestic stability and international aspirations. “We’ll work hard during this break to bring in players who can elevate the team,” the coach stated, as the club enters a crucial phase on and off the pitch.
