Barros Schelotto Denies Boca Negotiations for Valentín Gómez
Guillermo Barros Schelotto addressed the growing speculation linking defender Valentín Gómez with a potential move to Boca Juniors. Following Vélez’s 1-0 loss to Sarmiento at home, the coach denied any involvement or conversations regarding the player’s possible transfer.
Recent reports claimed that Boca is eyeing Gómez as a reinforcement ahead of the Club World Cup and might offer Luis Advíncula and Exequiel Zeballos in a swap deal. However, Barros Schelotto dismissed the rumors, saying: “I haven’t spoken to anyone. Anything said before May 31 is untrue.”
Gómez’s name has already been involved in several failed moves. A transfer to River Plate collapsed after he failed his medical, and a stint with Udinese was cut short when promised payments were not fulfilled by Foster Gillett, forcing the player to train alone in Italy before returning to Vélez.
Upon his return, Gómez voiced strong criticism toward the club’s board, pointing out poor working conditions: “The pitches aren’t in good shape, the locker room needs renovation, and we had to buy fans ourselves for the training camp,” he said. He also urged the management to share the blame for Vélez’s struggles.
