Yesterday, Barcelona defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-1 in the 3rd round of La Liga, with new signing Dani Olmo scoring the winning goal in his debut match.
However, the match ended on a sour note for Barcelona. In a collision with Rayo Vallecano's Isi Palazón, 17-year-old central midfielder Marc Bernal, who had started all three matches this season, suffered a severe knee injury.
According to Gerard Romero, the initial diagnosis is grim—a torn cruciate ligament in the knee. This injury means Bernal is likely to be sidelined for up to nine months, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.
On Saturday, August 31, Barcelona will host Valladolid in the 4th round of La Liga. In all three previous rounds, Hansi Flick's team won with the same scoreline of 2-1.
