Barcelona's sporting director has explained his refusal to sign Williams in return for Olmo

In the summer transfer window, Barcelona actively intended to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, but in the end, midfielder Dani Olmo came to Camp Nou instead. Blaugrana sporting director Deco assures that it makes sense.

The team, according to the functionary, needed reinforcement in the midfield, so the signing of Olmo was just right:

‘Today we have Rafinha, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Lamine Yamal, players like Fermin Lopez or Olmo who can play in that position. If we had taken someone else, he would have had to be of a very high level. With the signing of Dani we have more options, the balance in midfield.

He is a completely different player compared to the midfielders we already had. With him we improve the quality of the attack. If we have been building a team in recent years, we can't just destroy it. That's why we decided we needed to raise the level, not lower it.
