Barcelona's first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, has decided to undergo surgery.

On his Instagram page, the German goalkeeper wrote that after constant discussions with Barcelona's medical team and several experts, they have decided that surgery will be the right step. He mentions that it's unpleasant for him as he will have to take a break from playing, but it's the correct and safe decision to return in the best condition.

It's worth noting that earlier, the German goalkeeper withdrew from his national team due to back pain. By the way, initially, the German goalkeeper tries to explore alternative treatments for his back issues. According to sources, the player is experiencing pain but was not eager to agree to surgical intervention. The source mentions that the Catalan club is deeply concerned that his injury could become chronic if surgery is not performed soon.

Ter Stegen signed a five-year contract with Barcelona in May 2014, with the player's transfer costing the Catalans €12 million. The German was brought in by the club to replace goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who moved to Manchester United.

In the current season, the 31-year-old ter Stegen has kept 8 clean sheets for Barcelona. He has conceded 15 goals in 17 matches.
