Barcelona wants Real Sociedad midfielder despite financial problems

The arrival of Hans-Dieter Flick as Barcelona's head coach has inspired the blaugrana management to bring their new manager some welcome reinforcements, despite the fact that things are pretty bad financially for the club.

But, the Catalans are not willing to pay a lot, and want to save some money. This includes the transfer of Real Sociedad midfielder Michele Merino. According to The Athletic, Barcelona are hoping that the player will not renew his contract with the club, which would drop his price unusually.

Merino has another year left on his contract and if it stays that way, the player is expected by Catalonia to be able to move to them for €25 million plus bonuses. The 27-year-old midfielder himself wouldn't mind leaving San Sebastian because he believes he has outgrown Real Sociedad and wants to be in a team with ambition.
