Barcelona issues official statement on Julián Álvarez
Laporta leaves the door open for the summer's biggest transfer sensation.
Details: Barcelona president Joan Laporta commented on the potential signing of Atlético striker Julián Álvarez, reminding everyone that categorical statements rarely mark the end of transfer negotiations.
Earlier, Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil publicly stated that the Madrid club had no intention of letting the Argentine forward leave. However, Laporta made it clear he doesn't see that stance as final.
“There have been many cases where it was said a player would not join a certain club, but in the end, he did… I don't want to give examples,” Laporta said.
Barcelona has already submitted an offer for Álvarez. According to Laporta, their proposal will remain valid until the end of July, after which the Catalans may walk away from the negotiations. Atlético, for its part, has already rejected a €100 million offer and insists they have no intention of selling one of their key players.
