Barcelona remains uncertain about when key midfielder Frenkie de Jong will return.
De Jong, who missed the European Championship due to a knee injury, sustained the damage while playing for Barcelona in April. At that time, the club's medical team decided against surgery, allowing him to continue the season. However, as preparations for Euro 2024 began, de Jong continued to experience knee pain, leading the Netherlands' medical team to conclude that he would not be fit for the tournament.
According to AS, Barcelona is still unsure of the timeline for his return to the field. The club is particularly concerned as de Jong's recovery is not progressing as dynamically as, for instance, Pedri's recovery from his own injury.
Head coach Hansi Flick understands that he will not be able to rely on the Dutchman until the international break in September.
Additionally, the acquisition of Dani Olmo has further strained Barcelona's already limited budget, and the club intends to address its financial situation this week.
