Reports suggesting Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is close to joining Barcelona appear to be exaggerated.

Details. According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, no agreement has been reached between the two parties, and a deal remains far from being finalized at this point. The 28-year-old German international has not given a definitive commitment to Barcelona, as confirmed by sources close to the player.

However, Barcelona is actively working to secure his signing on a free transfer this summer when he becomes a free agent.

Earlier reports indicated that the Catalan club had offered Tah a three-year contract with an option to extend for an additional season.

Background. Tah has been with Bayer Leverkusen since 2015, making 370 appearances for the club. He played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s successes last year, including winning the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal under Xabi Alonso.

His contract with Leverkusen expires this summer, and he has yet to renew it.
