Barau FC Hand Rivers United Heavy Away Defeat

Rivers United suffered a painful setback on the road after losing 4–1 to Barau FC in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday Five clash at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. The visitors started strongly and took an early lead when Osimaga Duke fired home a long-range strike inside five minutes. Rivers United pushed for more, with Yusuf Mohammed denying Samson Obi.

Barau FC responded midway through the first half, drawing level in the 25th minute as Usman Maidubji converted from the penalty spot. Jimmy Ambrose then completed the comeback just before the break. Substitute Kabir Abdullahi struck twice in the second half to seal the win.

Despite the defeat, Rivers United stayed top with 33 points, two of Nasarawa United. Assistant coach Yemi Olarenwaju blamed fatigue and travel demands, urging a quick response.
