Barça has chosen a successor to Flick in case the German fails
Barcelona B's head coach, Mexican Rafael Márquez, is close to extending his contract with the club for another year. Previously, the former footballer of the Catalan giant intended to leave his current position at the end of this season.
As reported by Diario Sport, he was convinced to stay by the club's sporting director, Deco. Márquez's current contract expires on June 30, and initially, he wanted to leave the club, but he has now changed his decision.
Deco insisted that Rafael should not leave, and he was offered almost double the salary. It is noted that Márquez could also lead the main team in case of Hans-Dieter Flick's failure.
It is worth recalling that Flick took over Barcelona at the end of May, replacing Xavi Hernández. The contract with the German coach is valid until June 30, 2026.
