Bank of Portugal warns of fraud linked to Ronaldo

There will always be opportunists looking to profit from the names of stars, and football legend Cristiano Ronaldo is no exception. This issue has even prompted a statement from Portugal’s central financial institution.

Details: Recently, online reports claimed that the Bank of Portugal was planning to release 25,000 coins with a face value of €7.50 featuring Ronaldo’s image. However, the bank has declared this to be fraudulent, clarifying that minting coins falls under the jurisdiction of the Portuguese Mint.

Statement: "The Bank of Portugal has become aware of false messages on foreign websites claiming that the Bank of Portugal is issuing a commemorative coin valued at €7.50 in honor of footballer Ronaldo. The institution has not issued and does not plan to issue any coin dedicated to Ronaldo. Approval of numismatic plans is the exclusive responsibility of the Mint," reads a statement from the Bank of Portugal, quoted by oJogo.

Reminder: Earlier rumors suggested that Ronaldo might transfer to PSG, but his current club Al-Nassr has dismissed these speculations.
