Balboa Weighs Racing Exit as Lanús, Peñarol and Atlético Nacional Circle

Adrián “Rocky” Balboa’s time at Racing Club appears to be at a crossroads. After a hot start to 2025, the striker has seen his role diminish under manager Gustavo Costas. According to TyC Sports, three clubs have expressed interest in acquiring him: Lanús, Peñarol, and Atlético Nacional.
Lanús emerged as a suitor following a direct request from head coach Mauricio Pellegrino. Peñarol is exploring a loan deal with a purchase option, but Racing is reportedly reluctant to negotiate with a Libertadores rival. Atlético Nacional is also in the race, aiming to secure Balboa on a one-year loan. Racing, however, seeks financial return after paying $800,000 for 30% of his rights earlier this year.
Balboa, under contract until December 2027, has scored four goals and recorded one assist in 20 appearances. Though not a regular starter, he remains a key bench option for Costas. If he leaves, Racing would lose another attacking piece—Maxi Salas is also close to joining River Plate. Talks have already begun to bring in Alejo Véliz from Tottenham as a potential replacement.
