Bafana Bafana Ready for Tough CHAN Qualifier Against Egypt

South Africa has arrived in Ismailia, Egypt, ahead of their crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against the North Africans on Sunday. With the first leg ending in a 1-1 draw in Bloemfontein, captain Neo Maema anticipates a challenging encounter in enemy territory.

A Tough Task Ahead

“We know that playing in Egypt is always very tough,” Maema stated. “We have a somewhat good record against them, but playing away from home in their backyard is never easy.”

Despite the difficult conditions, Maema remains optimistic. “The team looks ready and hungry. The younger players, experiencing Egypt for the first time, are full of energy and eager to secure qualification. It was a long trip, but we arrived safely, and now we are focused on the match.”

Squad Adjustments Before Departure

Coach Molefi Ntseki made several squad changes before traveling to Egypt. Golden Arrows' Nduduzo Mhlongo, Kaizer Chiefs' Naledi Hlongwane, and Orlando Pirates duo Monnapule Saleng and Azola Tshobeni were released from the squad. In their place, TS Galaxy’s Victor Letsoalo and Royal AM’s Mondli Mpoto and Levy Mashiane joined the team.
