Chinese automotive brand BYD has confirmed negotiations with Formula 1 management regarding the potential creation of a 12th team in the championship. The initiative has already received backing from FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who is advocating for further expansion of the starting grid.
According to Sport Mediaset, the discussions are still at an early stage, but BYD's interest is viewed as a genuine move toward increasing the presence of car manufacturers in Formula 1. The Chinese company sees the pinnacle of motorsport as a platform to test and showcase its technologies.
Meanwhile, various scenarios for BYD's possible entry are being discussed in the paddock. These include building a new team from scratch or acquiring an existing operation. Some current team structures are mentioned as potential options, but no concrete agreements have been reached so far.
