Atlético Madrid is entering the race with Barcelona to secure the signing of Manchester United's forward, Mason Greenwood. The 22-year-old player is currently in Spain, on loan at Getafe.

He gained attention after being granted permission to resume his professional career, which was halted in January 2022 due to allegations of attempted rape, assault, coercion, and controlling behavior. All charges against him were dropped in February 2023.

This season, he has scored five goals and provided four assists for Getafe, drawing interest from leading La Liga clubs. Besides Barcelona, Valencia and Real Sociedad have reportedly shown interest in him.

Greenwood likely doesn't have a future path back to Old Trafford, despite his contract running until 2025, and his transfer is expected to be agreed upon after the end of his loan spell at Getafe this summer.

Marca reports that Atlético Madrid has initiated negotiations with Manchester United regarding Greenwood's transfer, estimated at £40 million.

It's worth noting that Greenwood's move to Camp Nou at this stage is considered unlikely, even though Barcelona is prepared to offer the forward the iconic number ten, previously worn by the legendary Lionel Messi.
