Atletico Madrid is set to extend the contract of the Argentine right-back Nahuel Molina, as reported by the renowned football insider Fabrizio Romano.

Negotiations between the parties are ongoing, with an official announcement expected imminently. The Madrid-based club reportedly intends to include a substantial release clause in the new contract, potentially reaching €100 million.

Molina joined Atletico in 2022 from Udinese for €20 million. The Argentine signed an agreement with the Madrid side until 2027. During this period, he has played 65 matches for the Rojiblancos and netted six goals.

Additionally, Molina became a World Cup champion in 2022 in Qatar. He featured in all matches for Argentina during the tournament, scoring a goal in the quarterfinals, marking his debut for the national team.

Following their defeat against Girona (4:3), Atletico currently sits in third place in the La Liga table with 38 points. On January 6th, Diego Simeone's team will face Lugo in the round of 16 of the Spanish Cup.
